Description

The original framed card. The map was printed on thin paper using a typographic method, and was an integral part of the Brockhaus and Efron encyclopedia published in 1890-1907 in 86 volumes (published in volume 7 as an appendix). The first eight volumes (up to the letter "B") were published under the general editorship of Professor Andreevsky and mainly contained translations into Russian of articles from the famous German Brockhaus encyclopedia Konversations Lexikon. A new period in the history of the encyclopedia began with the invitation to the editorial board of many prominent scientists and philosophers of that time: chemist Dmitry Mendeleev, literary historian Semyon Vengerov, botanist Andrei Beketov, philosopher Vladimir Solovyov and others. From that moment on, the encyclopedia begins to be updated with original articles, focusing on issues related to the history, culture and geography of Russia. The displacement of translated articles by original ones and the emergence of new authors affected the very nature of the publication: from a trivial encyclopedia, it turned into a collection of the latest achievements and discoveries in all fields of science and technology. The Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary had a stable reputation as one of the best universal encyclopedias in the world. He was not only not inferior to the German Brockhaus, the French Larousse or the English "Britannica", but also surpassed them, differing in the breadth of thematic coverage and depth of presentation of scientific information. The contours of the province on the map differ from modern ones and include part of the present Belgorod (St. Oskol, Valuiki, etc.) and Lipetsk regions, including Lipetsk itself. The size with a frame is 44*38 cm. Authenticity guarantee.
