The caftan was made of red cloth. According to the data of 1795, the buttons on the uniforms were supposed to be convex white. In March 1804, a blue uniform with yellow flat buttons was installed. In January 1834, the Corps of Mining Engineers was formed, its officers received dark green uniforms. The buttons were introduced silver-plated "with a specially designated image." It was a "crossed pickaxe and hammer." In the Regulation on Civil Uniforms of 1834, the officials of the Mining Department indicated a dark blue uniform, "smooth gilded buttons" and convex.
In 1854, civil officials of the Mining Department, who were attached to the Corps of Mining Engineers, received a military-style uniform modeled after the uniforms of the Corps. The buttons are also silver-plated with the state coat of arms, or the emblem of the department in the form of "two hammers folded crosswise." In June 1867, the Corps of Mining Engineers was abolished and former officers received the status of civilian ranks. The uniforms were kept dark green. On the buttons there was an "image of the state coat of arms with a pickaxe and a hammer in the paws of an eagle." In 1874, the Mining Department was transferred to the Ministry of State Property. At the same time, despite some changes in the uniforms of officials, the emblems on the buttons no longer change and remain so until 1917.
