An extremely rare button in very good condition. It looks much better in person, with a beautiful patina. The diameter is 20 mm. The eagle on the button exactly repeats the state coat of arms of the reign of Alexander I. Brass, stamping. Guarantee of authenticity.
According to our data, the image of the double-headed eagle first appeared on buttons during the reign of Peter the Great as the state symbol of Russia. In 1799, "silver-plated" buttons "with the coat of arms of the Russian Imperial" were introduced on the uniforms of officials of the Board of Foreign Affairs (later the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). In the same year, uniforms "with coat of arms, both on the caftan and on the doublet, of ordinary size, with buttons" were indicated "to officials serving in the department of the Gatchina City Government." In 1808, "yellow" buttons bearing the image of the state coat of arms appeared on the uniforms of the Department of the Interior. In 1818, buttons with the coat of arms were installed for the uniforms of officials of the Office of Audit of Public Accounts - the State Audit Office. Since 1826, "coat of arms" buttons have been sewn on the uniforms of officials of the State Council, its chancellery, as well as the ranks of His Imperial Majesty's Own Chancellery.
