Road binoculars "Silowet" firm I. J. Urlaub

Russian Empire, the end of XIX century Bronze. Good collectors condition, optics clean. Binoculars work. Manufacturer label is missing, however this model is produced by the firm I. J. Urlaub. Intended for travelers, cruises, theatre or Racecourse. Some of these binoculars were purchased by the gendarmerie (probably okolonauchnyh guards). Length folded 62 mm unfolded – 78 mm. Multiplicity 3. The original.

background: 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod was the largest and representative of the all-Russia industrial and art exhibition. Urlaub were exhibited binoculars fixed samples, especially for military needs, and follows:

1. Military field binoculars sample General Staff;

2. Artillery binoculars sample Kronstadt fortress artillery;

3. Military field binoculars of the latest sample (1896) «foldable

paranosema, for installation of glass against the centers of the pupils of the observer";

4. Military-marine binoculars;

5. Officer binoculars from aluminium.

As the novelty of the company -  the all-Russian Exhibition in 1896 stood out binoculars under name «Silowet". The advantage of these binoculars, in addition to their cheapness,were as follows:

1. wide field of view;

2. strong increase;

3. slight absorption of light.

These binoculars were equally suitable for daytime and for night observations at the sea, , shooting Aeronautics. On the results of the all-Russia industrial and art exhibition in the firm «Ive. Yak. Urlaub" awarded gold medal «for the perfect grinding of optical rosefinches and manufacture of binoculars".

These binoculars were equally suitable for day and night observations at sea, on the field, when shooting and Aeronautics. According to the results of the all-Russia industrial and art exhibition in the firm "IV. Yak. Urlaub" awarded the gold medal "for perfect polishing of optical rosefinches and production of binoculars".
