A small—sized classic field (tourist) binoculars of the late 19th - early 20th century, made according to the Galilean optical scheme. The optics are clean, without cracks, but the central axis needs to be repaired, the eyepieces are not fully extended. In pre-revolutionary Russia, the word "road" meant "intended for travel, travel and field surveillance." The case is made of lacquered brass. The binoculars are built according to the Galileo scheme (with a concave eyepiece and a convex lens). This scheme gave a straight (not inverted) image, high luminosity and reliability, although it had a small field of view compared to later prism analogues. It is equipped with retractable brass lens hoods for sun protection. The eyepiece rings have a brand name stamped on them: "F. The Schwabe. Moscow". The company was founded in Moscow by Theodor (Fyodor Borisovich) Schwabe, a native of Germany and a Swiss citizen. It all started with a small shop selling imported glasses and pince-nez on Bolshaya Lubyanka. Soon, a repair shop was opened at the store.By the 1850s, the workshop had become a factory. Schwabe realized that Russia needed its own optics. The company began to produce the most complex physical, geodetic, surgical and optical devices: microscopes, telescopes, scales and binoculars. For exceptional product quality in 1871, the company "F. Schwabe"was awarded the highest status of "Supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty." Since 1873, the company has become a Trading house, co-owned by Albert Hamburger, the founder's nephew. In 1908, the company built a huge five-story factory in Sokolniki on Stromynka, which became the most advanced optical and mechanical production in the country. In 1912, the company was transformed into a joint-stock company. During the First World War, due to the German origin of the name, the company was renamed JSC Geophysics. After the 1917 revolution, the factory was nationalized. In 1941, the company was evacuated to Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), where it formed the basis of the Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (UOMZ). It was this factory that created optics for the Soviet space program (including the Vzor orientation device for Yuri Gagarin's spacecraft). Today, the name of the founder has been returned to the name of the Shvabe Holding Company (part of Rostec State Corporation). It unites the key optical and mechanical plants of Russia (KMZ im. Zverev, LZOS, ZOMZ, KOMZ, etc.), continuing to produce both modern civilian binoculars and sophisticated military and space technology.
