It was used in the Russian army to determine the distance using special prisms installed in the eyepieces of binoculars. A similar pair of binoculars with rangefinder tables, which depicted not the Russian, but the French military, was supplied by the manufacturer to the French army. Unfortunately, it is not possible to establish the exact date of the beginning of the use of this type of binoculars in the Russian army, however, judging by the marking of the presented sample, it was produced before 1892, when the company's name was changed to Baille Lemaire. On December 5, 1905, by order of the General Staff No. 332, these binoculars were examined at the Officer's Rifle School and found suitable for military use. It was purchased directly from the School store. Its price at that time was 14 rubles. It was also approved for use in the army by the General Staff Circular No. 168 dated September 13, 1912. It is noteworthy that by 1912 the price of these binoculars not only did not increase, but also decreased to 13 rubles and 50 kopecks. In 1913, the Circular of the General Staff dated July 10, No. 147 "On devices and manuals permitted for use in the military" 4,5 X and 5X Galileo-type binoculars from Baille Lemaire were also recommended for purchase, but they were no longer included in the list of the most suitable for military purposes.
