The porcelain factory of Yakov Khrapunov- Novy dates back to 1818, when in the small village of Kuzyaevo (Moscow province) three brothers - Tikhon, Semyon and Ivan - by the name of Novy founded an enterprise for the production of porcelain and earthenware. They ran the factory by seniority, with one brother replacing the other.
The early period of the plant's formation was associated with the Empire style, popular at that time. The shapes of the products and their decor were distinguished by solemnity, and the paintings were bright and rich in a colorful palette.
In 1848, Yakov Khrapunov married Agafya Novaya and the factory began to be called the "Khrapunov-Novago Factory". This was the beginning of a new stage in the development of production, which not only expanded significantly, but began to occupy a leading position among other ceramic enterprises in Russia.
Mechanization plays an important role in the development of advanced technologies. Steam engines have increasingly begun to occupy a place in human life and activity. Workshops have been equipped with modern hydraulic presses and grinding equipment.
According to the archival lists of 1853, forty-five people worked at the factory, and in 1871 there were two hundred more workers, that is, the scale of production expanded significantly. The renewal of production with the arrival of Yakov Khrapunov affected not only technological processes. The product range has expanded, and the shapes and artwork of the products have become completely different. Dishes and tea pairings with floral ornaments continued to occupy a leading position and were in high demand. However, the shape of the cups has become simpler, and the ornate high handle has become simple and convenient. The Empire style in which the tea pairings of the previous period were made was replaced by a style in which the traditions of previous eras and at the same time folk motifs were seen. This apparent transition from bright hues to a calm color scheme became more and more noticeable.
A characteristic feature of the artistic design of the objects of the Ya. Khrapunov-Novy factory is the colored roof, on the background of which the artists performed a subtle drawing. The attention to each flower or bud was extremely precise and masterfully subtle. A striking example of the factory's products is a creamer on an openwork slit leg from the 1870s. The pink roof of the creamer has the most delicate shade, and the flower garland looks especially exquisite against this background. The delicate, lace–like selection of the lower part of the objects is another striking distinctive artistic feature of the factory's products. The handles of cups, creamers, and teapots often had a simple rounded curl or stepped shape.
If the object did not have a colored cover, then the white background was lavishly painted with flowers and decorated with gold ornaments. The drawing in this case had a detailed elaboration, and the elements written in gold acquired a special grace. An original masterful technique was the execution of objects of the same collection in the same style and the same shape, but with different details of the drawing and the tone of the background. Among their faience products, dining sets with stucco ornaments and decorative dishes with landscape patterns made in the printing technique, in the manner of English faience, come to the fore.
Figurative plastic also had a place in the assortment of the plant. In the early period, funny figures of masterful characters of Russian and Oriental themes were produced, for example: "Turk" and "Turkish woman" with long pipes. With the development of production, there are more motifs for plastics, and the detail of objects increases. Rare specimens have survived to our time. Among the most famous products of the pre-revolutionary period are images of fruits and vegetables, boxes in the form of houses (https://artlot24.ru/article/farforovaya-fabrika-yakova-hrapunova-novogo-348 ).
