The 124th Voronezh Infantry Regiment is an infantry military unit of the Russian Imperial Army. The regiment has had seniority since February 22, 1775, when, after the abolition of light field commands, two Siberian Jaeger battalions were formed from them, one of which, renamed the 19th Jaeger in 1796, is the ancestor of the Voronezh Regiment.
On May 17, 1797, this battalion was deployed into two battalions and named the 19th Chasseur Regiment. In 1798, Major General Guildenshold was appointed its chief, after whom the regiment became known. In 1800, after the new chief, the regiment was renamed the Jaeger Major General Prince Orbeliani, then Major General Voeikov, and on March 8, 1801, it was named the 18th Jaeger. In the Patriotic War of 1812, the regiment was in the 23rd Infantry Division of the 4th Infantry Corps of the 1st Western Army, and the reserve battalion was in the Dinaburg Fortress. For the distinction in the Russian-Turkish War of 1828-1829, the regiment received a special campaign, awarded on April 6, 1830.
In 1833, the regiment was attached to the Oryol Infantry Regiment, in which it participated in the Hungarian campaign of 1849. For military distinction, it received a silver trumpet with the inscription "For the pacification of Hungary in 1849", awarded to it as the 4th battalion of the Oryol Regiment on December 25, 1849.
In 1853-1856 . The Orel regiment took part in the defense of Sevastopol and received the St. George banner with the inscription "For Sevastopol 1854-55" for its distinction in repelling the assaults in August 1855.
On April 6, 1863, the Orel Reserve Infantry Regiment was formed from the 4th reserve battalion and the indefinite-leave 5th and 6th battalions of the Orel Infantry Regiment, consisting of two battalions, four linear and one rifle company each. In August of the same year, this regiment was deployed into a three-battalion and named the Voronezh Infantry Regiment, which was given No. 124 on March 25, 1864. In 1875, the Voronezh Regiment was awarded the Alexander Jubilee Ribbon on the occasion of its anniversary.
In the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878. On October 12, 1878, the Voronezh regiment was awarded the St. George's Trumpet with the inscription "For crossing the Balkans in 1877" for crossing the Balkan Mountains in the detachment of General Velyaminov, and the inscription on the St. George Banner was added: "and for crossing the Balkans in 1877." In 1879, the regiment was deployed in a four-battalion formation, according to four companies each.
In the summer of 1903, the Voronezh regiment was moved to the Far East and in January 1904 became part of the Posyet detachment, and with the outbreak of the Russian-Japanese War, it was moved to Liaoyang and, being part of the Eastern Detachment, took part in the battle of Kanggualin on June 17 and 18, 1904, in the battles of Liaoyang, on the Shah and near Mukden, where D. Yuhuantun stubbornly defended on February 22, 1905.
By the beginning of World War I, the regiment was part of the 2nd Brigade of the 31st Infantry Division of the X Army Corps in the Kiev Military District. The regiment served as the base for the formation of the second-line 276th Infantry Kupyansky Regiment and the 31st infantry reserve battalion.
On July 31, 1914, the regiment embarked for the Austro-Hungarian front. He joined the battle from the march.
By October 1919, Colonel N. A. Tkachev had assembled the regiment's cadre in the Drozdov Division and created a separate unit, the 2nd consolidated regiment of the 31st Infantry Division, of which he was appointed commander. The regimental holiday is December 6th.
