One of the founders of the Petrograd "Windows of Growth", for which he created more than 500 posters in 1920-1921. In a number of paintings and graphic works of the early 20s. combined techniques of cubism and folk splint. The graphic cycles "Laundresses" (1920-1925), "Revolution Panel" (1922), "NEP" (1925-1927), executed with a clear, sharp stroke, are dominated by everyday and grotesquely satirical motifs. In the painting of the following years (mainly female portraits and nudes), he combined the constructive stability of the composition with a free impressionistic manner of execution (portrait of T. V. Shishmareva, 1935, Russian Museum, Leningrad). He worked a lot in the field of illustration of children's books, created a special system of their artistic composition, his own style of illustration, combining the conventionality of a catchy picture-frame and the immediate vitality of the image (illustrations: to the book by J. R. Kipling "The Elephant", published in 1921; to the book by S. Ya. Marshak's "Circus", published in 1925, "Mr. Twister", published in 1933, "Twelve Months", published in 1943).
