Commemorative badge for the death of Emperor Alexander II

Bronze, stamping. The original sign is in very good collector's condition. This type of brass or bronze tokens was minted by private workshops at the end of the 19th century, including after the death of the Tsar and the unveiling of the monument to the Tsar liberator in the Moscow Kremlin in 1898. The inscriptions on the reverse are made in pre-revolutionary spelling and list the key milestones of the emperor's life.:

• BORN ON APRIL 17, 1818, the date of Alexander II's birth.


• HE ASCENDED THE THRONE ON FEBRUARY 19, 1855, the date of the beginning of his reign.


• HE BECAME KING ON AUGUST 26, 1856, the date of his official coronation.


• HE DIED ON MARCH 1, 1881, the date of the emperor's death as a result of an assassination attempt.
