Prussian Military merit medal (Krieger-Verdienst-Medaille) was established in 1835 by the king of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm III of awarding lower ranks and non-commissioned officers among the non-Prussian nationals (nichtpreußische Mannschaftsdienstgrade). In exceptional cases, by the way, the award was given and the subjects of Prussia.
