The original cross is in excellent collector's condition. Dark bronze, stamped. In the center of the four-pointed obverse is a circular crosshair with outgoing rays. The "All-seeing Eye" (an eye in a triangle) is stamped inside the circle, and the inscription "1812" is located under it. The famous Biblical quote is stamped on the reverse side: "NOT TO US, NOT TO US, BUT TO YOUR NAME." It is a rarity in such preservation. Guarantee of authenticity.
This state award of the Russian Empire was established by Emperor Alexander I in a Manifesto dated August 30, 1814. It was awarded in recognition of the merits and patriotism of the clergy who prayed for victory and supported the morale of the people during the Napoleonic invasion. The cross was awarded to all Russian priests (from parish priests to metropolitans) who were in holy orders before January 1, 1813. Later, in 1816, the right to receive this award was extended to the Protestant (Lutheran and Reformed) clergy of the empire. The coinage and issuance of crosses at the St. Petersburg Mint lasted from 1818 to 1829, with a total of about 40,000 copies produced. In the year of the centenary of victory (1912) Nicholas II allowed priests who are direct senior descendants of the awarded persons to wear this memorial badge.
