Silver, stamping. Good collector's condition. The obverse depicts the intertwined monograms of two emperors, Nicholas I and Alexander II, crowned with imperial crowns. The defense of Sevastopol began under Nicholas I and ended under Nicholas II. Alexander II. In the center of the reverse, under the "all—seeing eye", the dates of the defense are indicated - "FROM SEPTEMBER 13, 1854 TO AUGUST 28, 1855," and around the circumference there is an inscription "FOR THE DEFENSE OF SEVASTOPOL." The medal was established on November 26, 1855 by Emperor Alexander II in memory of the heroic defense of the city during the Crimean War (1853-1856). The award was given to generals, officers, sailors and soldiers of the Sevastopol garrison who were directly involved in the defense, as well as civilians (including women) who helped the defenders. This is the first medal in the history of Russia, which was awarded not for victory or the capture of foreign territories, but for defense. The medal was supposed to be worn on the chest on the ribbon of the Order of St. George. Traces of restoration of the eyelet. Guarantee of authenticity.
