The original medal is in excellent collector's condition. Bronze, gilding, stamping. On a new-made shoe. The medal depicts a portrait of Emperor Alexander III in profile, facing to the right. Around the portrait there is an inscription: "B.M. ALEXANDER III IMP. AND SAMOD. VSEROSS." ("By the Grace of God, Alexander III, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia"). The portrait was designed and executed by the master carver, medal winner Leopold Steinman (1848-1897). On the reverse there is an inscription "For diligence". Guarantee of authenticity. Rare.
The Medal "For Diligence" was established in December 1801 by Emperor Alexander I of Russia (1801-1825). The medal "For Diligence" was awarded to subjects of the Russian Empire for services rendered to the Russian State through personal civic diligence. Various social strata of the Russian state's population fell into this category, namely: peasants, burghers, retired soldiers who expressed a desire to continue their service after the due date, police and fire protection officers of lower ranks and others.
The medal was issued in three types: breast (30 mm.), neck (51 mm.) and commemorative (65 mm.), in gold, in silver, in bronze, gilded and silver-plated. The award was intended to be worn on the chest. The medal was worn on the ribbon of the Order of St. Anne and on the ribbon of the Order of St. Stanislaus. The neck medal was worn on the ribbon of the Order of St. Anna, on the ribbon of the Order of St. Stanislav, on the ribbon of the Order of St. Prince Vladimir, on the ribbon of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky. The award was presented in a solemn atmosphere, with an entry in the relevant documents. There were miniature, frach versions. In addition to the state production of the award by the Mint, the medal was also minted by private craftsmen.
