The medal "In memory of the Patriotic War of 1812" was established by Emperor Alexander I in memory of the Patriotic War. On February 5, 1813, a silver medal was established, and on August 30, 1814, another medal made of dark bronze was established. It was intended to reward the nobility and merchants who contributed to the victory of the army in this war. "Our noble nobility," the manifesto says, "... has been pious from time immemorial, brave from time immemorial ... has proved by repeated experiments... devotion and love for ... the Fatherland, and especially now has expressed unprecedented jealousy by a generous donation not only of their possessions, but also of their blood and life itself, may it be decorated with a bronze medal on the Vladimir ribbon with the same image, which is already on the (silver combat) medal, established in 1812. This bronze medal ... may the fathers or elders of the families in which, after the death of those who wore it, it remains in the preservation of their descendants, as a sign of the unforgettable services rendered to the Fatherland by their ancestors this year...". Therefore, on some military ranks, you could see a medal made of dark bronze next to the silver one. They received it as the eldest in a noble family. And further in the manifesto it is stated: "The eminent merchants, who took a noble part in the universal zeal and zeal, may they receive from Our lips benevolence and gratitude. In commemoration of those of them who brought excellent and important services, We ordered them to be considered, and upon presentation We will reward them with the same bronze... medal, on the ribbon of the Order of St. Anna."
