Finnish Medal "For Knowledge and Work of the Finnish Society of Agriculture"

An original and quite rare medal in excellent collector's condition. Silver, stamping. On the obverse is a hand–sewn image of the reigning Russian Emperor Nicholas II (reign; 1894-1917) in profile, to the left, the inscription in Swedish "KEJSAR NIKOLAI II STORFURSTE TILE FINLAND" ("EMPEROR NICHOLAS II GRAND DUKE OF FINLAND"). On the reverse in the center of the medal is the image of the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Finland, consisting of the coat of arms of a lion standing on its hind legs, holding a knight's sword in its right paw and trampling a saber with its hind paws. The composition is crowned with a princely crown and framed by an oak wreath. The inscription around the circumference of the medal, in a small circle in Swedish and Finnish "KUNSKAP OCH IDOGHET. TAITO JA TOIMI" ("KNOWLEDGE AND WORK"). The inscription around the circumference in a large circle in Swedish and Finnish "KEJSERLIGA FINSKA HUSHÅLLNINGSSÄLLSKAPET. KEISARILLINEN SUOMEN TALOUSSEURA" ("IMPERIAL FINNISH AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY"). At 6 o'clock, the master medallist's marking consists of two Latin letters C.J. The medal is on the original ribbon. The Finnish Agricultural Society, founded back in 1797 under the Swedish King Gustav IV Adolf, continued its work after Finland joined Russia in 1809. Alexander I awarded the society the status of "Imperial". The medal was awarded for outstanding achievements in the development of agriculture, farming, handicrafts and local industry in the territory of the Grand Duchy. The award was worn on the left side of the uniform or civilian dress. The medal was awarded in a solemn ceremony, with an entry in the relevant documents. In addition to the standard size of the medal, there were also miniature, frilled versions of the award.
