Medal in memory of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty

Bronze, gilding; stamping. Good collectors condition. A deep relief. On the obverse of the medal — head-and-shoulders portraits (in three quarters) of Emperor Nicholas II in the form of the 4th life guard rifle Imperial family regiment and the Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich in the barm and the cap of Monomakh. Around the circumference of the coin — beads of alternating dots and dashes. On the reverse side of the medal the inscription: "In memory | of the 300th anniversary | reign | house of Romanov | 1613-1913". The guarantee of authenticity.

The medal, which depicts similar portraits of Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov (the founder of the dynasty) and Emperor Nicholas II, its last representative, also became a memory of the celebrations. The regulations and medals "In memory of the 300th anniversary of the reign of the House of Romanov" were approved by the Emperor on February 21, 1913. The design of the medal was developed by the senior medallist of the St. Petersburg Mint A. F. Vasyutinsky. The author of the bas—relief on the obverse of the medal is the sculptor M. A. Kerzin. The medals were made of light bronze. Private firms and workshops on special orders cast medals from gilded silver and, in rare cases, from gold. Medals were worn on the chest on a ribbon of "coat of arms" colors — white, orange and black stripes of the same size. The medal was awarded:

  all persons who, by February 21, 1913, were in the civil service in the military, naval, civil and court departments, members of the State Council and the State Duma, clergymen of all confessions; who served in elected positions in noble, zemstvo and city self-governments, freelancers and non-staff employees of both sexes in government institutions, retired officials of the maritime and civil departments that had the right to wear a uniform in retirement, educational staff of both sexes in higher, middle and lower state institutions, artists of imperial theaters, sisters of mercy of the Russian Red Cross Society, township elders, chairmen of township courts, municipal voits, village elders and their corresponding officials of township and rural administrations, persons awarded the insignia of the Military Order;

  cadets and pages of special classes; all ranks of the army, navy, separate corps of border guards and gendarmes, police, convoy teams and prison guards, as well as representatives of the rural population who participated in the jubilee celebrations in the presence of the emperor by February 21, 1913;

  all persons who took an active part in the preparation, arrangement and celebration of the 300th anniversary of the reign of the House of Romanov;

  medallists, artisans and workers of the St. Petersburg Mint who made medals.

  
  

The persons listed in paragraph 2 received medals for free, the rest of the awardees were given special certificates for the right to wear medals, which were purchased for a fee (including from private firms and workshops). More than 1.5 million medals were minted at the St. Petersburg Mint in 1913-1914. In total, by June 26, 1914, the Mint received orders for 2,028,166 medals.
