Bronze, stamping. Good collector's condition. The obverse depicts a six-pointed Orthodox cross in a blaze of rays, trampling the Muslim crescent. This composition symbolizes the victory of Orthodox Russia over Islamic Turkey. The dates of the war are indicated on the sides: "1877" and "1878". The reverse contains a quote from Psalms: "NOT TO US, NOT TO US, BUT TO YOUR NAME." The medal was established on April 17, 1878 by Emperor Alexander II in honor of the victory over The Ottoman Empire. The medal was worn on a combined St. Andrew's and St. George ribbon. The award was issued in three versions, depending on the degree of involvement in the conflict.:
