Bronze, gilding, stamping. The original and quite rare medal is in excellent condition. This is the last jubilee medal established in Of the Russian Empire on June 12, 1914, during the reign of Nicholas II. On the obverse is the image of Peter the Great in a laurel wreath, armor and with a ribbon, facing to the right. Around the circumference there is an inscription in Old Slavonic script: "PETER THE GREAT EMPEROR AND AUTOCRAT OF ALL RUSSIA." This version of the image was made by a private workshop ("privatnik"), as evidenced by the characteristic shape of the eyelet and the peculiarities of studying the portrait.
The medal was issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Gangut (which took place on July 27, 1714), the first major victory of the regular Russian fleet over the Swedish during the Northern War. The awards were awarded to the ranks of the Naval Department, officers and lower ranks of the regiments that participated in that historic battle, as well as direct descendants of the officers who commanded it.
