History

"Alarm Clock" is an issue of the famous Russian literary and artistic satirical weekly, in which the events of the First World War took a key place. During this period, the magazine, published in Moscow, combined traditional everyday satire with sharp military-patriotic propaganda, denouncing the external enemies of the Russian Empire and criticizing internal problems (for example, corruption and looting in the rear).  From the summer of 1914, the focus of the magazine shifted sharply to the First World War. Caricatures became the main weapon against Imperial Germany and Austria-Hungary.  Individual issues were entirely devoted to abuses, speculation and bribery in the rear during the war. The magazine was published weekly and contained color chromolithographed drawings, cartoons, humorous stories, poems and feuilletons.
