The book of the outstanding Russian herbologist Pavel Pavlovich von Winkler (1866-1937) is a real illustrated pedigree of weapons. First published in 1894, it remains an unsurpassed "systematic description of the gradual development, methods of manufacture and decoration" of weapons — from ancient times to the XIX century. Working on "Weapons ...", the author relied on authoritative foreign studies and his own unique experience of getting acquainted with the richest domestic collections in the Imperial Hermitage and the Artillery Museum. Here is the most complete and richly illustrated reproduction of the 1894 edition, which includes sections devoted to the brands of gunsmiths, descriptions of the largest weapons storages and the history of Russian weapons.
