On February 16, 1877, the Finnish Light Shipping Company (Finska Angslups Depot AB) was registered in Helsingfors (Helsinki). The Board of the company was located in Vyborg, and in St. Petersburg there was a representative office at 26 Officer Street. The main activity of the Finnish Light Shipping Company was the transportation of passengers along the Neva River. In addition to these lines, there were routes along the St. Petersburg canals and small rivers. Steamships also sailed between St. Petersburg and Peterhof, Shlisselburg, Teriyoki and Kronstadt. Since 1895, the company's vessels have already operated in Sevastopol, on the Oka and Volga rivers, and served the Nizhny Novgorod industrial Fair. The company owned its own shipyard and workshop. Since 1895, the Finnish Light Shipping Company in St. Petersburg has operated an electric railway built on the ice of the Neva River in winter. The main maintenance staff was recruited from Finns, with the exception of coast guards and cashiers, who were usually staffed by Russians. The guards were given metal plaques with the image of the coat of arms of the society and the designation of the position in Russian.
