Description

Steel, forging. A beautifully executed old replica of a rare helmet. It is in this helmet that Prince Pozharsky, the leader of the people's militia during the Time of Troubles, is most often depicted. The copy is completely identical to the original, hand-forged from steel. The barmice is also hand-forged, the rings are riveted together. The size is about 58. It was made in the late 1990s. There is a single copy available.

History

Yerikhonka is a type of helmet, personal protective (safety, protective) armament (personal protective equipment), steel headdress, a type of open helmet. The erichonka consists of a steel crown with a pointed top, equipped with elements to protect the ears, a flat visor, a sliding nanosheet (a narrow steel strip that protected the face from transverse blows), often a plate—shaped headpiece, in the form of a lobster tail. The earpieces and the back of the head were attached to the crown by means of leather belts or, less often, chains. Such helmets were used in Russia, in the countries of Western Asia and Europe in the XVI—XVIII centuries. They came to Russia from the south — from Turkey, Iran, and then got to the west — to Poland, Hungary, Lithuania and other countries. The origin of the name "yerikhonka" is not known for sure. According to one version, this is a distorted word "Yugrensky" or "Georgian". On the other hand, it comes from the word "to be quiet", that is, to show off, to put on airs, to be stubborn. However, some people hold the opinion about the origin of the name of the city of Yarkand, or, most obviously, but doubtfully, Jericho.
