Tape and personal archive of the sailor of the imperial yacht "Standard" P. Revyakin

A uniquely rare archive of a man who passed Tsushima, Japanese captivity and became a sailor of the most important state yacht – the imperial "Standard". The archive consists of a demob tape made to order in one of the gold-sewing workshops of St. Petersburg, 8 photos, a book "Rules on electrical engineering for fleet vessels" and a personal diary. The ribbon is full-size, with a non-standard version of the name of the vessel (instead of "Standard" it says "Imperial Yacht Standard"), the initials of the owner "P" and "R" are applied in gold at the ends. The personal diary describes in detail the campaign of Rozhestvensky's squadron, the Battle of Tsushima, the death of the cruiser Svetlana, on which Revyakin was then serving, his rescue from the water after falling from a sinking ship, as well as Japanese captivity. The lot also includes a photo of the cruiser itself, taken shortly before the death. During the battle, the cruiser got hit under the waterline in the area of the power plant, a number of rooms were flooded, a strong roll to the left side was formed (as a result of which the guns located there could not shoot further), the speed dropped by 5 knots. Having received such heavy damage, the cruiser Svetlana on the night of May 14-15 lagged behind the column of the Russian squadron and moved only with the destroyer Bystry, which joined it. At dawn on May 15, the ship was discovered by the Japanese cruisers Otova and Niitaka, as well as the destroyer Murakumo. The officers gathered by the commander unanimously decided to take the fight, and if there was a threat of capture, to sink the ship. After a two-hour battle, having spent all the shells and having lost its low-power artillery disabled by enemy fire, the cruiser was shot at point-blank range. By 11 o'clock, the cruiser with a large trim on the bow lay on the port side so that the upper deck began to enter the water. In this position, with the downed topmasts and the rear tube, but the aft flag raised, the Svetlana sank to a depth of 600 meters at 11:08 a.m. at a point with coordinates 37 ° s. w. and 129 ° 50' v. d. In this battle, the captain of the 1st rank, who was on the bridge all the time, was killed. P. Shein, as well as senior officer Captain 2nd Rank Alexey Alexandrovich Zurov (son of General Zurov A. E.) and Father Fyodor (Khandaleev) — hieromonk, ship's priest of the cruiser. Of the crew, 167 sailors drowned and died of wounds in captivity. One of the reasons for such a large number of victims is that the Japanese fired artillery fire at the fleeing crew both during the death of the cruiser and even after it went under water, and then left the battlefield. Only an hour and a half later, the auxiliary cruiser America-Maru approached the place of death and lifted the surviving Russian sailors from the water, but by that time many had already died from hypothermia. The diary also describes in detail the process of rescue itself, which makes this document truly a real find for a lover of Russian naval military history and a researcher of the topic of Tsushima. The cover of the diary is later, from a notebook of the Soviet period.

The photos included in the lot show himself Peter Revyakin, as well as his colleagues. The fact that the ribbons on the sailors' capless caps are still black makes the pictures particularly rare, i.e. all the photos were taken during the initial period of the Standard's service, when the yacht had not yet received the status of a guard. Revyakin's photo with the Svetlana ribbon is also no less rare, given that most of the ship's crew died.

The book included in the lot, judging by the golden crowding "P. Revyakin" in the lower part of the spine, belonged to the personal library of the sailor (judging by the elegant handwriting and literate speech in the diary, our archive owner received a good education). On the first page of the book there is a stamp on the permission to be on board the yacht signed by Officer Girin.
