History

The St. George Medal is a medal of the Russian Empire with the inscription "For Bravery", established on August 10, 1913 (instead of the previously established medals "For Bravery" for irregular troops and for border guards) and assigned to the Military Order of St. George the Great Martyr and Victorious. The medal had 4 degrees and was intended for awarding lower ranks (privates and non-commissioned officers) for military services in peacetime and wartime, which were not legally suitable for awarding the George Cross.
