In September – October 1914 was a significant lack of officers, especially in the infantry, in the lower levels (up to company commander inclusive), which was not overcome until the end of the First world war. Staff shortages have forced the military Department, first, to open several dozen schools wartime (schools ensigns), and second, to pass through them, virtually all recruits had the appropriate education. His contribution made intensive courses in military schools, and also called out of stock. Old personnel officers in the first year of the war suffered huge losses. As a result, by the end of 1915 more than half the officer corps of the Russian army were warrant officers, and their share in the total number of officers grew.
