Postcard format. One of the forms of prisoners of war was to transfer them as labor to private entrepreneurs, is widely practiced in Germany and Austria-Hungary. The prisoner is fully received on the content of the owner of the factory or workshop; the latter was obliged to provide housing, sanitary facilities, food and to pay for the work wages for special rates, usually less than a civilian worker. The rights of prisoners of war followed the war Department of the relevant powers (Germany and Austro-Hungary), under whose authority they were; for violation of the rights of the prisoner to the employer was threatened with a large fine. Shown in the photo soldiers of the Russian army was lucky – they were not included in mines or quarries, working in the city, in a repair shop for carriages. A characteristic feature of the captives held in Austria-Hungary – metal tag with the number fastened to the crown cap (in Germany soft tag is usually sewn on clothes). In order to impede the escape of the prisoners of war pants are usually sewn wide stripes of cheap fabric in yellow, orange or red; these can be seen in standing soldier from the left. These photos are quite rare, because not all of those people in the photos, returned Home and not all of the returnees survived until the end of the Civil war.
