In the early twentieth century the coat was preserved as a formal wear worn by those who didn't rated any of the many uniforms of the Empire; as said by a wit, the coat was the uniform for the man without the uniform. Depicted, of course, is very rich and holds a high position in society, as evidenced by a beautifully tailored coat of the finest cloth, with revere, covered with silk. Apparently, the character refers to the merchant class. It looked big Russian merchants of the early twentieth century, from which was formed the class of the national bourgeoisie; the times of merchants jerkin and boots accordion had already receded into the past. The coat wearing a black vest (hence the picture was taken in a solemn day – then jet would be white), starched shirt with a waistcoat and high collar, and white bow tie. However, the highlight of this photo is the sign which can be seen on the right breast depicted. Golden badge in the shape of a shield with the family crest of the Romanovs (the Griffin) in a wreath under the Imperial crown was vrezalsya those who personally brought greetings to the Imperial family on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the reign of the Romanov dynasty. This sign is quite rare even in the photos of military and civil officials who were supposed to wear it in certain forms of clothing; pictures of men in mufti such is encountered very rarely. Apparently depicted was part of the "deputation" from the merchants to any province. A great acquisition to the collection for connoisseurs!
