Shoulder straps of the staff captain of the RIA Army Infantry

A pair of very rare shoulder straps in a unique unworn condition. From 1874 until the end of the old Russian army, the colors of shoulder straps and epaulettes were established throughout the army infantry according to the place of the regiment in the division: the first two regiments (first brigade) of each division were red, the second two (second brigade) were light blue. In the infantry, unlike the cavalry, the numbers on the officers' shoulder straps were the same color as the metal device of the unit. Until 1909, the number on the shoulder straps corresponded to the infantry division number, since 1909 to the regiment number, but the 1st Nevsky Infantry Regiment was a patron and had red shoulder straps with the monogram of King George I of Greece. Thus, these shoulder straps belonged to a staff captain who served in one of the regiments of the second brigade of the 3rd Infantry division – the 3rd Narva Infantry or the 4th Kopor Infantry (the latter did not have patronage and monograms in 1902-1913).
