Description

A handwritten note is a draft of a telegram from Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna to Lieutenant General Vladimir Konstantinovich Vitkovsky dated January 5, 1934. Size: 22.8 x 17.9 cm. Minor scuffing of the corners. Postscript in ink "Vx. № 31 / 5-I34». The text of the note: "Post telegram to General Vitkovsky, I sincerely thank the Society of Former Cadets of the First Cadet Corps for their well-wishes. I wish you every success and prosperity in the New Year. Ksenia". Excellent preservation. Guarantee of authenticity.

History

    1. Xenia Alexandrovna (1875-1960) was the Grand Duchess, the first daughter of Emperor Alexander III and Empress Maria Feodorovna. Wife of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich, mother of seven children. During the First World War, she was active in the field of charity, she herself went to the front. Since 1919, in exile with his mother in Denmark, after her death in 1928 — in England. Most of the living Romanovs are her descendants.

    1. Vitkovsky Vladimir Konstantinovich (1885-1978) — colonel of the Life Guards of the Kexholm Regiment, knight of the Order of St. George, 4th degree. Member of the White Movement, since 1920, Lieutenant General. In exile in Bulgaria, then in France, in the USA, the chairman of the Gallipoli Society, the association of the Life Guards of the Kexholm regiment. Author of the book "In the struggle for Russia. Memories". In 1921, the former teacher of the First Cadet Corps, Colonel A.N. Antonov, published a brochure "The First Cadet Corps", in which he gave a brief historical sketch of the life of the corps for almost 200 years. In 1922, in Belgrade, an initiative group consisting of the chamber-junker Prince I.A. Engalychev, railway engineer S.K.Smirnov, Lieutenant-General V.K.Vitkovsky, Major-General F.E. Bredov, Colonel S.A.Leonov, captains A.N.Petrovsky, A.K. Moller, and B.A. Andreev, Captain A.A.Vetlitsa and Lieutenant S.K.Mitricheva founded the Society of Former Cadets of the First Cadet Corps and developed its charter. Prince Engalychev, the oldest of this group, became the head of the formed Board. In 1929 The Society joined the General Cadet Association. In 1932, the report of Lieutenant General V.P.Agapyev "On the 200th anniversary of the founding of the 1st Cadet Corps and the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Society of Former Cadets" was published, read out at the Anniversary Meeting of the members of the Society in Belgrade.
