10 kopecks in 1813, St. Petersburg-MF

A small exchangeable silver coin with a face value of 10 kopecks (dime), minted during the reign of Emperor Alexander I. The design is made in the strict Imperial Empire style according to the monetary standards of mass minting of small-denomination silver coins from 1810-1825.

Silver 10 kopecks of Alexander's time were one of the most sought-after denominations in everyday use. The coin was constantly changing hands in small-scale calculations, which caused its relief to undergo severe wear. The pennies of this period that have come down to us can rarely boast of perfect condition. The presented copy, despite its long circulation, has retained excellent geometry and full readability of the key elements — the denomination and the mint, which makes it a worthy example of genuine silver change from the era of the Napoleonic Wars.

Silver (868 proof), stamped. Weight 2.07 g. The diameter is 17.5 mm. Mint: St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg). The circulation is 1,765,000 copies. General engraver: Mikhail Fedorov, Minister of Mines (initials "M F" on the obverse).

Obverse: The Small State Emblem of the Russian Empire is depicted in the center — a double-headed eagle with its wings spread out. The heads of the eagle are crowned with two small crowns, the third (large) crown with a cross is located above. The eagle holds a scepter in its right paw and a power in its left paw. The Moscow coat of arms is placed on the eagle's chest: a shield with the image of St. George the Victorious on a horse, striking a serpent with a spear. The letters of the mintsmaster are separately stamped under the tail of the eagle: on the left — "M", on the right — "F". The date of minting is indicated under the initials in a semicircle along the edge — "1815."

Reverse: A large imperial crown is depicted in the upper part of the field under the edging. The coin's digital face value, "10", is printed in large font in the center. Under the numbers there is a one-line inscription indicating the name of the monetary unit: "KOPEK". A thin horizontal dividing line is drawn below. Below it are the letters of the St. Petersburg Mint - "S.P.B.". The composition is surrounded by a semicircular wreath of laurel (left) and oak (right) branches, tied at the base with a bow. There is a dotted rim along the edge of both sides.

Collectible preservation (Very Good / Fine-). The coin bears honest traces of active participation in the trade turnover. The relief of the imperial crown and the leaves of the wreath on the reverse has been noticeably smoothed out by time, but the structure of the branches and acorns of the oak is recognizable. The field of the coin is smooth, has a pleasant matte light gray shade with an original patina and noble age-old darkening around the inscriptions. The most important thing is that the numbers "10", the letters of the denomination and the designation of the mint "S.P.B." are deeply minted and fully readable.

1815 was the time of the triumphant end of the era of the Napoleonic Wars, the Congress of Vienna and the return of the Russian army from Foreign campaigns. The protracted war depleted the treasury and devalued paper banknotes, so the government of Alexander I attached great importance to the minting of a full-fledged coin. The 868th-grade silver dime (containing about 1.8 grams of pure silver) helped to stabilize retail trade. The wreath depicted on the reverse combined the main imperial symbols: the laurel glorified the great military victory of Russia over Napoleon, and the oak represented the inner strength, firmness and inviolability of the state.
