A very interesting and rare almost complete set of uniforms in very good condition. It includes a camouflage field jacket, originally lined with insignia, a helmet in an original camouflage cover, a maroon beret, boots (one of them has a hole in the sole for attaching to a mannequin rod), cloth trousers, as well as a set of field equipment, including a flask in a felt cover, a canvas field bag for maps, suspension to the SMLE bayonet, gaiters, revolver holster and X-belt and paired pouches in the STEN MkI submachine gun. All tarpaulin items of equipment have ink stamps with product release dates from 1940 to 1945. A great purchase for any museum or private collection!
British Commandos (English: British Commandos) are special units of the British army formed in June 1940 by order of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in order to conduct raids on the German-occupied territories of continental Europe. Initially, they were recruited from soldiers of the British army who volunteered to participate in special operations, subsequently, not only representatives of all branches of the armed forces of Great Britain and its colonies served in the ranks of commandos, but also foreign volunteers.
During the Second World War, 30 separate commando units and two amphibious brigades were formed. They fought in all theaters of war — from the Arctic Circle in Europe and the Middle East to Southeast Asia. The scale of their actions was wide — from the landings of small groups from the sea or from the air to the operations of amphibious brigades as part of the invasion forces in Europe and Asia.
After the war, most of the commando units were disbanded — only the 3rd Special Forces Brigade remained. However, today's British Royal Naval Commandos, the Parachute Regiment, the Special Air Service, and the Special Boat Service are considered the successors of a number of traditions of the original commandos. This legacy of World War II spread to mainland Europe and the United States: the French Special Forces and Marines of the French Navy, the Dutch Commandotroepen Corps and the Belgian Paracommando Brigade were created to some extent under the influence of British commandos.
