Kiffheuserbund is an alliance of German war veterans with headquarters in Rüdesheim am Rhein. It owes its name to the monument "Kiefheuser" (German Kyffhäuserdenkmal) - a memorial built on the top of the Kiefheuser mountains near Bad Frankenhausen in Thuringia in Germany. The origins of the "Kyffhäuserbund" lie in the organization "Deutscher Kriegerbund", which in 1900 united disparate veteran organizations and became known as "Kyffhäuserbund der deutschen Landeskriegerverbände". Later the name was shortened to "Kyffhäuserbund". By 1913, this organization already had 2.8 million members in Germany. During the Weimar Republic, the organization changed its name to the Deutscher Reichskriegerbund Kyffhäuser, and in 1938 to the National Socialist Association of Reich Kiefheuser Soldiers (German: NS-Reichskriegerbund Kyffhäuser eV), becoming the only organization representing the interests of veterans in the Third Reich. The Kyffhäuserbund was dissolved in March 1943 by Adolf Hitler himself, and its assets were transferred to the Nazi Party. The restoration of the Kiffheuser organization with branches in federal lands began in 1952. The modern "Kyffhäuserbund" also performs the functions of the German Shooting Sports Association.
