Badges for wounds in three degrees ( "gold", "silver" and "black") of the period of World War 1 (1914-1918) were introduced for German troops on March 3, 1918 by the German Emperor Wilhelm II (1888-1918). By the beginning of 1918, the number of German wounded was "off the scale", and this the fact should have been reflected in the signs of the incentive distinction. The wound badges were very popular among the German soldiers of the First World War, and the slotted versions, made after the war by individual orders (especially from precious metals), were valued especially highly and were very expensive.
