The original civilian award of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (Kriegskreuz für Zivilverdienste) is in excellent condition. The award was established on August 16, 1915, by Emperor Franz Joseph I to reward civilians for outstanding services during the war. The cross has the shape of a "clawed" cross superimposed on an oak wreath. In the center is a round medallion with the initials of Emperor FJI (Franz Joseph I). The ring around the medallion bears the Latin inscription: MERITO CIVILI TEMPORE BELLI ("For civil service in wartime") and the Roman numerals MCMXV (1915) — the year of the institution. Silver, enamel. Guarantee of authenticity.
