Heavy metal, enamel. An original and rather rare order in very good condition. The badge of the order is a golden cross with expanding ends of white enamel with a blue border. The Luxembourg lion is placed on the central medallion of the cross on a striped silver-blue background. The medallion is framed by a ring of blue enamel with an ornament in the form of a laurel branch. The reverse of the sign is similar to the obverse, except for the central medallion, in which the gold crowned monogram of Duchess Charlotte is depicted against a background of red enamel. Size 40*45 mm. Guarantee of authenticity.
The Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg) is a state award of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The Order was established on January 23, 1961 by Grand Duchess Charlotte to award for services to the Duchy and the people. It has five degrees:
Grand Cross – includes the badge of the order on the shoulder band and a star.
Grand Officer - includes the badge of the order on the neck ribbon and a star.
Commander – the badge of the order on the neck ribbon.
Officer – badge of the Order on the breastband with a rosette.
Knight (Cavalier) – the badge of the order on the breastband.
There is also a medal of the order. The ribbon-sash of the order is silk moire, red with blue and white stripes on the edges. The badge of the Grand Officer is similar to the badge of the Grand Cross, and the breast star has no gilding. The medal is similar to the badge of the cavalier degree, but it is gilded and without enamel. There are beams of rays between the crossbars of the cross.
