Order of the Red Banner of Battle (Mong. "Tsergiyn gavyaany ulaan tug" odon) — the Order of the Mongolian People's Republic — was established in 1926. Initially, the order was called "For Military Valor", in 1931-1945 it was called the Order of the Red Banner for Military Valor, since 1945 it has been called the Order of the Red Banner for Military Merit, since 1993 it has been called the Order of the Red Banner for Military Valor. It was awarded to soldiers, officers, political workers of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army, the Mongolian People's Army - military personnel, state security officers, border guards and other citizens who performed a feat in the defense of the country from aggressors and contributed to the strengthening of the People's Revolutionary army, strengthening the defense power of their country against external and internal enemies, in the protection of peaceful the labor of the people. The Order of the Red Banner of the MNR was also awarded to individual military units, formations, military schools, industrial and administrative organizations that successfully completed special tasks of the government in increasing the military power of the MNR and strengthening the country's defense capability.
Thousands of Mongolian soldiers, fighters and commanders of the Red Army, military figures of the Soviet Army, armies of socialist countries were awarded the award at various times. Those who especially distinguished themselves in the defense of the MPR were awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Battle twice, three times, four times, and Marshal H. Choibalsan was awarded 5 times. Among those awarded this Order four times are Marshal of the MNR G. Damid, Colonel-General Zh. Lhagvasuren, Major General G. Randoo, Colonel D. Nyantaysuren, K. E. Voroshilov, Major Generals D. Damdinhuu, M. Zaisanov, Ch. Danzan, B. Shagdarzhav, Colonel M. Tsedendash, one of the first Heroes of the MNR, pilot, Brigade Commander Ch. Shagdarsuren, Lieutenant Colonel V. Saaraldai.
Marshals of the Soviet Union K. E. Voroshilov and S. M. Budyonny, Soviet pilots: G. A. Refschneider (1936), twice Heroes of the Soviet Union S. P. Denisov, G. P. Kravchenko, Ya. V. Smushkevich were among the first to be awarded this order. The army newspaper "Ulaan Od" ("Red Star"), the United Higher Military School, the squadron "Mongolian Arat", the Department of Border and Internal Troops of the MNR, the 44th Guards Tank Brigade "Revolutionary Mongolia", the Mongolian Revolutionary Youth Union, the 17th Army of the Soviet Army also deserved this high combat award.
The Order of the Red Banner of the MNR was awarded to the M. V. Frunze Military Academy and the V. I. Lenin Military and Political Academy, the Military Academy of the Rear and Transport and other military educational institutions that made a great contribution to the training of military personnel of the MNR. According to Herfurt, about 600 awards were made with the order of type I, type II — about 2300, type III and IV — about 6000.
