The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky (ukr. The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky is a state award of Ukraine for awarding citizens of Ukraine for special merits in protecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity, strengthening the defense capability and security of Ukraine. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the President of Ukraine established the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, named after the leader of the national liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people of the XVII century. On May 3, 1995, by Decree of the President of Ukraine L. D. Kuchma No. 344/95, the insignia of the President of Ukraine "Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky" I, II, III degrees was established. The decree also approved the Charter of the insignia and the description of the insignia of the order. On May 7, 1995, the first presentation of the Order of the III degree took place — the president presented the first badges of the Order twice to the Heroes of the Soviet Union, Aviation Generals Alexander Molodchey and Anatoly Nedbaylo, Hero of Socialist Labor, full cavalier of the Order of Glory Maxim Velichko and other veterans. On March 16, 2000, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine "On State Awards of Ukraine", which established the state award of Ukraine — the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky I, II, III degrees. The law provided that its effect extends to legal relations related to the awarding of persons awarded the insignia of the President of Ukraine. The President was advised to bring his decisions in line with the adopted Law. On January 30, 2004, by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 112/2004, the previous Decree No. 344/95 was declared invalid; a new Charter of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky and a new description of the signs of the Order were approved.
