Description

The original star is in excellent condition. The original name of the award «The Italy Star». Bronze, patination. It is made in the form of a hexagonal guiding star, with an ear, a hanging ring and a ribbon. In the center of the obverse there is an image of the monogram of King George VI of Great Britain, consisting of Latin letters and Roman numerals GRI / VI (full Latin text «GEORGIVS REX IMPERATOR VI» ( "GEORGE THE KING EMPEROR / VI"). Around the circumference of the inscription in English the inscription «THE ITALY STAR» ( "ITALIAN STAR"). The reverse is smooth, without any markings. On the original tape. Guarantee of authenticity.

History

The star was established (originally in 1943) on May 8, 1945 on the proposal of Prime Minister W. Churchill (1940-1945), First Lord of the Treasury and Minister of Defense at the behest of His Majesty, in honor of the victory of the Allied forces over the countries of the Hitlerite coalition. The bulk of the awards took place immediately after the end of World War II (September 2, 1945). The star was awarded to servicemen of the countries of the British Commonwealth, as well as the crews of its merchant fleet. The star "Italy" was awarded for service in the territories in the periods:
1) Italy (only for land forces and aviation units), Greece, Yugoslavia, Pantelleria (an island between Africa and Sicily), the Aegean Islands, Crete and Elbe (only for land forces and aviation units) from June 11, 1943 to May 8, 1945.
2) Sicily (only for land forces and aviation units) from June 11, 1943 to August 17, 1943.
3) Sardinia from June 11, 1943 to September 19, 1943.
4) Corsica (only for sailors of the military and merchant navy) from June 11, 1943 to October 4, 1943.
5) The South of France from August 15, 1944 to the autumn of 1944.
6) Austria from May 5 to May 7, 1945.

To receive the award , the following standards were established for staying in these areas under the conditions of the above terms:

1) For army servicemen – 1 day or more of operational service.
2) For military aviation units – 1 or more operational or combat sorties.
3) For sailors of the military and merchant fleet – deployment in these areas associated with active actions (but provided that the applicant has already been presented to the star for the war "1939 -1945").
4) For military personnel of the navy based on the shore and non–flying personnel of the US aviation - participation in 1 ground operation.
