Description

The original medal is in excellent condition. The obverse of the medal depicts the coat of arms of the Bulgarian Kingdom against a background of crossed swords and surrounded by laurel and oak branches. The reverse depicts the years of Bulgaria's participation in the World War 1915-1918 and a wreath of wheat, laurel and oak leaves, symbolizing Macedonia, Thrace and Moesia. The ribbon has a triangular shape and a red stripe in the middle, there are green and white stripes along the edges. Medals for civilians have a white stripe instead of a red stripe, and for relatives of the killed — a black stripe. The medal was worn on the left side of the chest. The medals were made in Germany and Switzerland and sent to Bulgaria in several batches. The medal was awarded to 50,000 people in Bulgaria and about 199,000 foreigners (Germans, Austrians and Hungarians) who were allies of Bulgaria in the First World War.Guarantee of authenticity.

History

Medal for participation in the European War (1915-1918) (bolg. The Medal for Participation in the European War (1915-1918)) is a special commemorative medal of the Bulgarian Kingdom dedicated to the country's participation in the First World War. The medal was established by Decree No. 9 of Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria on December 9, 1933. Together with the medal for participation in the European War, the medal for participation in the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) was established. The medal was awarded to all living servicemen of the Bulgarian army who distinguished themselves during the First World War, as well as relatives of those who died in the war. The medal was also awarded to civilians: volunteers, orderlies, surgeons and journalists. In addition, foreign citizens could also be awarded the medal (as a rule, they were soldiers of the armies of the countries that were Bulgaria's allies in the war).
