Bulgaria. Silver Medal of Merit

Silver, stamping. The medal was established in 1881 and was awarded for outstanding services to the Bulgarian nation and the crown. Obverse (obverse side): The profile of the reigning monarch Ferdinand I is depicted, with an inscription in Bulgarian around the circumference: "FERDINAND I TSAR OF Bulgaria" (Ferdinand I Tsar of the Bulgarians). Reverse (reverse side): in the center is the inscription "FOR MERIT" (For merits) in two lines, surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel leaves tied with a ribbon, and a five-pointed star at the bottom (this side is not visible in the image, but is standard for the medal). The award is suspended on a red ribbon. Initially, the medal was awarded on a crimson ribbon, but later it was approved to use the ribbon of the Order of Bravery (red) for services during the war and on the battlefield.
