History

Order of Merit (bolg. Order of Merit) It was established on December 25, 1881 by decree of Prince Alexander Battenberg. The Order of Merit is awarded to military officers of officer ranks for military service (with the ribbon of the Order of Bravery) and peacetime (with the ribbon of the Order of St. Alexander). There are three emissions of two varieties each. The badges of the order of each of the issues were made of silver and represent a round medallion framed by a laurel wreath with a diameter of 34 mm. The obverse side depicts the image of the reigning monarch, and the reverse side features a crowned Bulgarian lion on a German Gothic shield. On the sides of the shield are laurel branches and the inscription "For merit". The medallion is superimposed on crossed swords. With different issues, there are differences in the thickness of the font, the width of the wreath, and the shape of the shield.
