The Order "For Bravery" (bolg. The Order of Bravery was a state award of the principality and, from 1908 to 1946, of the Kingdom of Bulgaria. Since 2003 — the State award of the Republic of Bulgaria. The Order of Bravery is the very first Bulgarian order. It was established by decree of Prince Alexander Battenberg on January 1, 1880 to reward military personnel who showed courage and heroism on the battlefield. The Military Cross "For Bravery" as a reward for the lower ranks was introduced at the same time as the officer's cross. The I and II degrees were gilded, and the III and IV degrees were silvered. In addition, military crosses were smaller than officers in size (33-34 mm), with a narrower ribbon. The degrees differed by the presence or absence of a bow on the ribbon. In 1917, Bulgaria abandoned writing i before vowels, as is customary in the Old Slavonic language. The new rules are reflected in the design of the award. On the reverse side of the cross, the traditional Bulgarian name was replaced by Bulgarian.
