Description

The blade is steel, straight, single-edged, with a narrowing in the middle part and an extension in the lower third, with one lobe on both sides. The handle is formed by two wooden fluted cheeks fastened to the shank with two screws. The handle head is steel, curved towards the blade. The crosspiece is straight, with a barrel ring on the side of the blade butt. A steel plate with a spring latch is soldered to the back, locking the cleaver in the sheath. The scabbard is leather with a steel device, which consists of a mouth with an oval peg and a tip with a ball. The cleaver is equipped with a leather pendant.

    • The heel of the blade on the right: the brand of the manufacturer is applied – the National Arms Factory in Toledo. The Royal Arms Factory, located 1.5 km from Toledo, was a traditional manufacturer of Spanish edged weapons, where, in particular, the famous "Toledo blades" for swords were made. It was founded by King Charles III in 1761 ("Real Fabrica de Espadas de Toledo"). At the beginning of the twentieth century, cavalry sabers and officer sabers for all types of troops were produced in Toledo. After the Civil War and the establishment of the dictatorship of General Franco, the production of only officer sabres remained. The Toledo factory closed in the late 1970s. Unlike many others, the Toledo blades never carried inspection markings. They were branded with a factory stamp (TO, FABRICA DE TOLEDO, FABRICA NACIONAL DE TOLEDO) and almost always the year of manufacture. Sometimes a reference was added to the Artillery Corps in whose care the factory was located (therefore, the inclusion of the words Artillery or Arta in the stamp did not mean that the blade was intended for an artillery saber). From the 2nd half of the 19th century until the factory's closure, some brands combined the FABRICA DE TOLEDO legend with the image of crossed cannon barrels and a serial number.

    • The heel of the blade on the left of the scabbard on the left: "52808" — the stamp of the army acceptance, the bayonet number.

    • The crosspiece at the bottom: "29" is the stamp of the inspection acceptance.

    • The crosspiece on the left: "U" is the stamp of the inspection acceptance.

Condition

the item is in good collector's condition. Minor surface traces of corrosion and sharpening on the blade. Scuff marks on the scabbard. There are traces of corrosion on the crosspiece, the head and the scabbard device.
