The English police helmet is an elongated helmet made of polymers, covered with cloth and decorated with plastic, which is used by constables in the United Kingdom, Commonwealth countries and other former colonies of Britain. The traditional headdress of British police officers, however, is far from the only one — a helmet is used along with caps and other regular headdresses. Initially, English constables wore high top hats, but in 1863 it was decided to replace them with this helmet. In 2002, the British police began talking about the rejection of canonical police helmets, primarily because of their inconvenience, as well as a number of other reasons. However, they have not been fully ousted so far.
