The Order of the Rising Sun is a Japanese order. The oldest order of Japan. It was established by the decree of the State Council of April 10, 1875. The Order of the Rising Sun was awarded only to men, for both military and civilian services. On December 31, 1875, the first award ceremony and award ceremony of the order took place in Tokyo: to emphasize the high status of the award, the emperor and seven members of the imperial family became the first holders. The first recipient from outside the imperial family was in February 1876, Lieutenant General Saigo Tsugumichi for the Taiwan Campaign. In 2003, the order was reformed: now it is possible to award them to women, and the senior type of the highest I degree, the Order of the Rising Sun with Paulownia flowers, has been allocated a separate award.
