Order of Albrecht the Bear in the degree of Commander, Anhalt

Bronze, gilding. The original order is in excellent collector's condition. Along the edge of the medallion on the front side is a ring with the motto of the order – «FURCHTE GOTT UND BEFOLGE SEINE BEFEHLE» ( "Fear God and keep his commandments"). In the center of the medallion is an enamel image of a bear walking on the fortress wall. On the original neck band. Very rare. Guarantee of authenticity.

The Order was founded on November 18, 1836 by three dukes: Heinrich von Anhalt-Keten, Leopold IV Friedrich von Anhalt-Dessau, Alexander Karl von Anhalt-Bernburg in honor of Margrave Albrecht the Bear. Initially, the order consisted of three degrees: Grand Cross, Commander, Knight and two medals of merit: gold Medal of Merit and silver Medal of Merit. In 1839, the Order chain appeared in the charter of the Order. On March 18 , 1848 , the Commander 's cross was divided into two classes: Commander's cross of the I class (with a star) and commander's cross (without a star). On February 8, 1854, the Knight's cross was also divided into two classes: gold and silver. On July 18, 1864, when awarding for military merit, swords were added. On April 29, 1901, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Duke Frederick I, a crown was added to the insignia of the order. Albrecht the Bear (1100 - November 18, 1170) was an Ascanian count, the founder of the Brandenburg Mark and the first Margrave of Brandenburg.
