History

Count Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke, Moltke Sr. (German Helmuth Karl Bernhard Graf von Moltke; October 26, 1800 — April 24, 1891) was a count (1870), Prussian and German military commander and military theorist, Field Marshal General of Prussia (1871) and the Russian Empire (1872), chief of the Great General Staff of Prussia. Along with Bismarck and Roon, he is considered one of the founders of the German Empire. Uncle of the chief of the German General Staff, Colonel-General Helmut von Moltke (Moltke Jr.).
