Bavarian order of military merit 2nd class with swords and crown

Order "For military merit" (it. Militдrverdienstorden) was established July 19, 1866 by the king of Bavaria — Ludwig II. The order was considered the main reward of the Kingdom for bravery and military merit and is awarded to officers and senior officials. Civilians, which the service of the army, could also be presented to the award. The order was in the form of a Maltese cross covered with blue enamel, with Central medallion. Between the beams cross in the major degrees of the order (after 1905 — in all degrees) display the Golden flame (after 1905 in the awards of the 4th class flame color was changed to silver). The obverse Central medallion, on a black enameled background, was placed a gilded monogram "L" (in honor of the founder of the order of king Ludwig II) and the word "MERENTI" (from lat.?—?"Worthy"), written in Golden letters[1] on the circumference of a white ring framing a Central medallion. On the black enameled reverse was located a gold Bavarian lion and the date of establishment of the award "1866" in the white ring.
