History

The order of the red eagle (German. Roter Adlerorden) — order of chivalry of the Kingdom of Prussia. Served as a reward for bravery in battle, a remarkable command of the troops, a long and faithful service to the Kingdom and other services. The order was given to the officers or civilians of approximately equivalent status, while the existing medal could be awarded the non-commissioned officers, soldiers, civil servants and inferior to others. The predecessor of the order of the red eagle was founded on 17 November 1705, by the Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth Georg Wilhelm as the order of Sincerity (Ordre de la Sincérité), a model for him probably was the English order of the Garter. The order of Sincerity soon fell into disuse, but in 1712 was restored to Brandenburg-Bayreuth. In 1734 in Brandenburg-Ansbach Margrave Georg Friedrich Karl Brandenburg-Kulbacki revived the Order under a new name, "Order of the Brandenburg red eagle" and with the new motto "SINSERE ET CONSTANTE" ("SINCERE AND persistent"). 18 Jul 1734 was published the Statutes of the order. In January 1792 the Brandenburg-the Bayreuth and Brandenburg-Ansbach was absorbed by Prussia, the order is also passed to Prussia. 12 Jun 1792 king Frederick William II gave the Order of his last name was "the Order of the red eagle" and gave him the status of the order of the Prussian Kingdom, the second-highest after the order of the order of the Black eagle. The order ceased to exist with the fall of the German Empire in 1918.
